Welcome From The Owners

Welcome to 11 Pearl, Fistral Bay Apartment! We are Jenny, Chris, Issy and Murphy (the dog). We have been holidaying in Newquay for many years; it’s our favourite place to be Whether this is your first time coming to Newquay or you are, like us, a family that comes back again and again, we aim to provide you with a fantastic stay that you will remember.

Our tips for where to go and what to do

Jenny
My favourite place is the balcony! It’s the perfect location to relax, soak up the sun and watch the world go by. Even on cooler days I love to wrap a throw around me and sit out with a warm drink.
I enjoy a good walk and one of my favourites is to Crantock Beach and if you want to go further into Crantock Village where there are a couple of lovely pubs and a place to have afternoon tea. At the end of the day be sure to catch the sunset over Fistral. It is truly spectacular and I never get tired of seeing it!

Chris
I love the ocean. I like nothing better than spending time in the water surfing (I’m ok at), paddle boarding (I’m not very good at but it’s fun) or kayaking (I’m good when there are no waves!). The apartment provides the best lookout over Fistral; you can see what the waves are doing without leaving the balcony. I spend a lot of time at Fistral and also Towan Beach in the town centre when the Fistral waves are too big!

A special mention to the Escape Surf School. I have been surfing with them for over 10 years and they took me from never having lay on a board to being a confident surfer. They also taught Issy to surf from the age of seven but more of that from Issy. They are run and owned by Mike Young, a pro surfer, fantastic coach and all round great guy. Along with Reubin and the rest of the Escape team they provide the best place to learn or progress your surfing. Based on the seafront at Belushi’s bar overlooking Towan Beach, they are open everyday of the week. I surf with them every time we are in Newquay.

Issy
I have grown up in Newquay and it is my favourite place to be. Over the years I have done it all; I’ve been to the Sea life centre, the zoo, the indoor splash pool and horse riding. I started surfing when I was seven and was better than my dad by the time I was eight. Surfing with the Escape Surf School they made me feel safe and built my confidence, pushing me when they knew I was ready to do more. I was “out the back” riding unbroken waves with my dad on Fistral and Towan from eight years old.

I still love the water and like to paddle board (I’m better than dad at that too) and kayak. I haven’t tried coasteering yet but maybe one day. As I’ve got older I’ve started to appreciate shopping a lot more! I love the shops at the Fistral Beach complex and in the Town centre.

I love going out to restaurants, I spent a lot of time in the Fort Inn when I was young as it has a play area. It also has a fantastic sea view and great food. I have been a vegetarian now for five years and most places have a good selection for me to choose from. The Pasty Shack on Fistral Beach does a great veggie and vegan range of pasties. They also do yummy ice cream!

Murphy
I have been coming to the apartment all my life. I love looking out over the balcony and watching all the other dogs go by. My favourite time is when we go to the beach. I get to run up and down the beach and now I’m a bit older I even go in the sea – I love to get my paws wet! Newquay is very dog friendly, I am allowed most places including the shops and restaurants.. I love the fuss and attention I get when I am in a restaurant and I almost always get offered a biscuit (I never say no).

Our daily family walk is always a highlight. There is always something new to see, whether that is the seals, birds of prey or even people standing on their head in yoga poses on the cliff tops, its never the same and never dull.

We tend to alternate between cooking in the apartment and eating out. There are some excellent places at the Fistral Beach complex including Rick Steins and the Fish House. Our family favourites are; The Stable – a very relaxed pizza restaurant that sits overlooking Fistral Bay, and the Fistral Beach Bar; which is a great place to have a beer whilst watching the real surfers carving through the waves. They serve excellent bar food too.

We hope you enjoy your stay!
